More than 4,000 students graduate from UT in December

KNOXVILLE — More than 4,000 students across the University of Tennessee are completing their degrees this month.

Gov.-elect Bill Haslam addressed graduates at UT Knoxville’s commencement ceremony on Dec. 11. UT Knoxville has nearly 3,000 graduate and undergraduate students earning their degrees.

Steven J.K. Symes will address UTC’s graduates on Dec. 18. Symes, an assistant professor of chemistry, is researching when liquid water was present on Mars. He is a recipient of the 2010 University of Tennessee Alumni Association’s Outstanding Service Award. UT Martin has 600 graduates.

Retired Lt. Gen. John “GLAD” Castellaw will speak at UT Martin’s commencement on Dec. 18. He graduated from UT Martin with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and spent 36 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was Marine Aviator of the Year in 1990. UT Chattanooga has 600 students graduating.

The UT Health Science Center has about 65 students graduating in December. The College of Nursing and the College of Graduate Health Sciences held convocations on Dec. 10. Graduates from other colleges will be recognized at the spring commencement.
