The University of Tennessee Law Enforcement Innovation Center (LEIC) today announced plans to develop a training program to minimize biased-based policing in the law enforcement community.

“Earlier this month, we began discussions with the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles to create a national certification program for law enforcement agencies across Tennessee and nationwide,” said Rick Scarbrough, LEIC executive director. “This training will seek to increase diversity in law enforcement and examine perceptions, stereotypes and cultural assumptions.“

The program will roll out with campus law enforcement agencies across the University of Tennessee System this fall. In addition, the training will be offered to local law enforcement agencies across Tennessee and the nation.

The UT Institute for Public Service, through LEIC, provides first class training to local, regional and national-based law enforcement in areas such as homeland security, forensic science, command and leadership, cybercrime and many others.
