Zacharia Leaves Posts at ORNL, UT

Thomas Zacharia, who helped the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory partnership achieve world leadership in supercomputing, is leaving his post as deputy director for science and technology at the lab to head research efforts for the Qatar Foundation, lab director Thom Mason announced Wednesday.

Tennessee embraces solar installation

The Tennessee Solar Institute (TSI) completed its highly successful Solar Installation Grant Program last week. With more than 6.7 megawatts of commercial solar projects installed in less than two years, TSI has helped boost Tennessee’s ranking nationally in the production of solar energy, from 20th in 2010 to 15th by the end of 2011, according to the Solar Energy Industry Association.

UT Knoxville Professor Jesse Poore Passes Away

Dr. Jesse H. Poore, professor in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, passed away at his home on April 25. Dr. Poore’s career spanned 40 years in leadership roles at Florida State University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and other public and private organizations. He earned a doctorate in information and computer science at Georgia Tech in 1970.
