Information Session for University of Tennessee Engineering Management Degree Program Offered in Kingsport

KINGSPORT –- Engineers in northeast Tennessee have an opportunity to advance in their fields by earning a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee Space Institute in industrial engineering with a concentration in engineering management. And they can complete the degree without leaving home.

UT will host an information session for prospective students on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education located in downtown Kingsport at 300 West Market St. The session will begin at 5:30 p.m. in room 217, and refreshments will be provided.

Greg Sedrick, UTSI professor of engineering management, will lead the session and will provide an overview of the program and admission criteria. He also will reflect on his experiences teaching in an online format and working with area students and businesses, such as Eastman Chemical Company, to deliver advanced training to the region. Applications are being considered now for the spring 2011 semester.

The engineering management program provides practicing engineers with an educational experience balancing technical depth with leadership, project management, financial management, technology transfer, ethical and legal perspectives, team relations, organizational behavior and continuous quality improvement.

The 33-credit hour program is offered entirely online and is designed to accommodate the schedules and commitments of working adults.

UT’s partnership with the Kingsport Center provides on-site access to computers, equipment and study areas to students enrolled in the University’s more than 40 web-delivered programs, including the engineering management program at UTSI.

Gloria Gammell oversees UT’s day-to-day involvement with the Center and may be reached with questions at ggammell@tennessee.edu or (423)354-2498.
