KNOXVILLE – Sandy Jansen has been named executive director of Audit and Consulting Services at the University of Tennessee.

Jansen was assistant chief audit executive for the Texas Tech University System and has 17 years of audit and compliance experience in higher education. She was appointed by the Board of Trustees in January and began her new job on Feb. 27.

The executive director of Audit and Consulting Services serves as the University’s chief internal auditor and reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees.

“Sandy’s experience at Texas Tech will be an asset in directing the critical auditing and risk management functions at our University,” UT President Joe DiPietro said. “She comes highly recommended from Texas Tech, and the trustees were impressed with her knowledge of the inter-workings of a university system.”

Jansen, 40, had spent all of her career at Texas Tech in various roles. She was named assistant chief audit executive in 2004 and was responsible for execution of the annual audit plan for the university system.

Prior to that role, she was assistant director in the Office of Audit Services for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She also held other staff and senior audit positions within the Texas Tech University System and was associate director of NCAA compliance for student financial aid. During her tenure, she was involved in an audit of the student billing system that prevented $2 million in billing errors and three investigations of three staff members who were separately convicted of embezzling a total of more than $1.4 million.

A native of Texas, Jansen earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting at Texas Tech University. She is certified as an internal auditor and in control self assessment.

Jansen replaces Mark Paganelli, who is now executive director of administration and finance for the UT treasurer’s office.
