KNOXVILLE – J. Daniel Stewart, associate vice president for research at the University of Tennessee, has been inducted into the College of Engineering Hall of Fame at Georgia Tech, his alma mater.
Stewart was honored at an induction ceremony in Atlanta on April 28. He earned his bachelor’s, masters’ and doctorate degrees in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech. The hall of fame honors alumni “who have contributed to the profession, advanced in their careers, and enhanced the lives of others both personally and professionally,” according to a release from the University.
Stewart has worked for the University of Tennessee since 2004 and oversees research and development projects involving all of UT’s campuses and institutes and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which UT co-manages for the Department of Energy.
He came to UT after spending 37 years with the Air Force. Prior to retirement, he was the first executive director for the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, overseeing research, development, acquisition, test and sustainment of weapons systems.
Stewart has won four Presidential Distinguished and Meritorious Rank Awards through his service. He maintains a connection with the Air Force by serving on the AF Studies Board under the National Research Council of the National Academies.
