KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee Alumni Association’s (UTAA) Board of Governors selected Kimbrough L. Dunlap III as its new president to lead UT’s 362,000 alums in 2016-17.
Dunlap is a 1985 UT Knoxville graduate with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. His career started in Nashville at an accounting firm before opening American Cellular in 1991. Upon selling the wireless agency nearly three years ago, Dunlap retired.
“The opportunity to serve as president of the UTAA comes at a great time in my life,” said Dunlap. “I look forward to advocating for UT and serving our fellow alumni because I really love this university and what it stands for.
“I love the friends I made while I was in school and the friends I made while serving on various volunteer boards over the past 14 years. Leaders are made at UT, and our alumni leaders truly embody the volunteer spirit by giving of their time and talent to UT.”
Dunlap has been an active member of the Davidson County alumni chapter and served as its president in 2008-09. He currently serves as a member of the Alumni Legislative Council and has served on the UTAA Annual Giving and Communication committees. In 2015 he was elected as president-elect to serve alongside previous UTAA President Alan Ledger.
UTAA began in 1836, making it one of the oldest alumni associations in the country. The association has grown to serve more than 362,000 former students who have studied at UT System campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin, Memphis and Tullahoma. The UTAA’s Board of Governors, with the leadership of the president, manages the affairs and funds of the association. The board consists of 32 members representing the UT System.
Dunlap resides in Brentwood, Tenn., and is married to Paula and they have a son, Brody.
