The University of Tennessee System has announced a national search for its next chief information officer position.
The chief information officer will provide System leaders and the Board of Trustees with guidance, strategic thinking and general information on all areas of UT System information technology and security activities. This includes developing reports and information for the board and senior leadership as necessary and presenting periodically.
The CIO will report directly to the chief financial officer and will work with institutional CIOs, chief business officers and other stakeholders to assess the current model of providing information technology services. He or she will play a key role in the development of a cloud strategy; improving business process standardization; establishing a data management and data analytics strategies and exploring new ways to collaborate, consolidate and streamline noninstructional activities.
The CIO will demonstrate the nimbleness and flexibility necessary to lead in a complex, multi-institution environment while advancing operational goals that include process standardization, data management and consolidation or centralization of services where warranted. He or she will be an active partner in leading information technology activities in the UT System with the president of the UT System, the vice presidents for administration, finance and academic affairs and student success.
The search committee, chaired by Jorge Perez, associate vice president for academic affairs and student success, met for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to discuss expectations of qualified candidates, search committee guidelines, a proposed timeline and details of the search process.
