Governor Phil Bredesen today joined a consortium of public and private universities in the state to announce a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to boost the state’s energy-related research and education efforts. The grant is one of the largest ever awarded in Tennessee by the NSF.
Susan Tours Simek, mother of University of Tennessee Interim President Jan Simek, passed away Thursday morning in Knoxville. A longtime resident of California, Mrs. Simek had lived in a Knoxville nursing home for the past six years. She was 89.
Tennessee Solar Institute (TSI) today announced it is seeking grant applications for $14.5 million in incentives for solar innovation projects that encourage the development of Tennessee’s solar industry. The Solar Innovation Grant Program is the second grant opportunity available through the $23.5 million Solar Opportunity Fund. Sixty-five grants make up the first round of award recipients, which is anticipated to produce 2.8 megawatts of new solar energy in Tennessee. Award recipients span across the state with grant funds ranging from $14,400 to $245,000.
