UT Supercomputer Kraken Officially Up and Running

Kraken, the University of Tennessee’s supercomputer, has passed its early testing and has officially been accepted to begin its designated scientific mission. The machine is expected to address some of humanity’s biggest problems from understanding the changing climate to helping design more effective medicines.

UT Announces Petersen Stepping Down, Simek Named Acting President

University of Tennessee President John Petersen and Trustee Vice Chairman Jim Murphy jointly announced today that Petersen will resign as president, effective June 30, 2009, and that Dr. Jan Simek, most recently the interim chancellor for UT Knoxville, will be recommended to the Board to fill the post for up to two years.

Industry Workers Earn OSHA Authorization at UT

Manufacturers across Tennessee have taken an important step to ensure safe work environments by designating personnel to become Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) authorized outreach trainers through the state’s only OSHA Training Institute Education Center, the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (CIS).
