On Nov. 5, 1963, Joe Johnson came to work at the University of Tennessee as the executive assistant to President Andy Holt. Fifty years later, the UT President Emeritus remains one of the most recognized and beloved employees of the University.

Gov. Bill Haslam has appointed UT Knoxville alumnus Randy Boyd as a special advisor to the governor for higher education. Boyd will consult with a working group appointed by the governor that includes UT System President Joe DiPietro, Tennessee Higher Education Commission Executive Director Rich Rhoda and Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan.
“Family reunion” has been the theme for the activities of University of Tennessee President Joe DiPietro over the last four months.
This is the first day on the job for new UT President Joe DiPietro. He started the work day by having coffee with employees in Knoxville, and then he went straight to presiding over his first president’s staff meeting.
Joe DiPietro has been elected the 24th president of the University of Tennessee.
