UT President Joe DiPietro Participates in College Access Event at the White House

Today, University of Tennessee President Joe DiPietro will join President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Vice President Joe Biden along with hundreds of college presidents and other higher education leaders to announce new actions to help more students prepare for and graduate from college. The White House College Opportunity Day of Action helps support the President’s commitment to partner with colleges and universities, business leaders, and nonprofits to support students across the country to help our nation reach its goal of leading the world in college attainment.

Five University of Tennessee graduates who have achieved exceptional success in the fields of agriculture, athletics, business and law are being honored Friday for exceptional service to their alma mater with the highest awards given by the University, designated and presented by the president of UT.

Interim Vice President Named for UT Institute for Public Service

Dr. Herb Byrd III, director of Extension Evaluation and Staff Development for the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, has been selected to serve as interim vice president of the UT Institute for Public Service. UT President Joe DiPietro will appoint Byrd to the interim vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. Mary Jinks as IPS vice president effective Aug. 29, 2014. Byrd assumes his new role on Sept. 2, 2014.
